Happy New Year at the Fisherman's Warf

It was like Petaling Street at the Fisherman's Warf on 4th of Feb 2011. People were everywhere having mouth watering Seafood. There was no place to have a meal, we had to spend more time looking for place to sit and eat. It was all worth the wait because the taste was fantastic.


When I mean it was like Petaling Street, I was not joking. You could actually order how you wanted your seafood cooked. They had the traditional Sweet and Sour, Ginger Steamed Fish, Salted Egg Crab and of course the western dishes served hot hot. We decided to be adventures and went for the Lobster and had the irresistible Mud Crab in Salted Egg.

This was my wife's favorite. Baked Baramundi with a Salad and Fries. We spent more than 30 minutes just looking at the shops in the Warf to digest what was served. I found all the prices of seafood to be about the same but there were some shops that had specialty dishes. Especially for the Crab. The Mud crabs were huge. Everyone was picking it up and looking under the crab like they knew what they were looking for. We had baked mud crab served for only AUD$10 for 2 full crabs.

The stanch of fish was so strong that we didn't need directions to find the Fisherman's Warf from the train station. The only thing that was on my mind was Oysters, Oysters while walking over there. There were a few cafe's serving seafood before the market but don't be fooled. The real deal is inside the Warf itself. The elaborate display of seafood and the Oysters were very tempting. The prices are all about the same but the experience is not as authentic as in the Warf. Better to enter the warf and order your Oysters. It was crowded but it was worth it. I had large Tasmanian Oysters fresh from the Bass Strait. The ladies were gracious enough not to join me in my feast of a dozen Oysters.

All in all it was a wonderful trip to Sydney Fisherman's Warf on the second day of Chinese New Year. We were surprised how many Chinese were there out doors having food on an auspicious day. I don't think anyone from Petaling Street would miss much if you moved to Sydney. You would find pretty much everything and more in Sydney. Happy New Year.
